After completing this module, you should be more aware of:
- the major changes introduced with the new advanced pharmacy service;
- the 24 new patient group directions (PGDs) for the clinical pathways;
- key sources of information on implementing the Pharmacy First Service;
- a requirement for evidence of competence;
- education support and training materials;
- PGD expectations for use of guidelines and patient information sources that will help inform the clinical consultation;
- patient journeys whether by referrals or walk-in under the Pharmacy First Scheme and the ‘gateway’ point;
- IT systems and the need to check for patient referrals regularly;
- recording requirements, updating the patient record and notifying the patient’s general practice;
- equipment required to conduct consultations in a consulting room or via video;
- operational hours and how to temporarily withdraw the PFS;
- fees and reimbursement, including monthly targets, and planned changes to service remuneration from 2025.
